An Instruction Manual on How to be Lucky (2020)

https://vimeo.com/429644285

An Instruction Manual on How to be Lucky (2020) is an absurdist video work using surreal props exploring ideas of order and chaos and the use of systems to make sense of an unpredictable world. The project follows on from a series of drawings by the same title. The video looks at the tension between the need to create systems and the impossibility of systematizing certain things such as luck.

This project has been sponsored by the City of Melbourne Covid-19 Quick Response Arts Grants. It was filmed and edited within the confinement of various stages of lockdown (from April to June 2020) and its artistic choices were informed by these constraints. The props and costume are a combination of recycled items and sculptural objects, the set is a home, and the artist is the sole actor.
